Marc Ponthus, guest artist

Marc Ponthus pioneered the monographic solo piano recital of leading avant-garde composers from the second half of the 20th century, devoting entire programs to composers including Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Iannis Xenakis. He has recorded for Neuma Records, Lorelt Records and Bridge Records. His recording of the complete piano music of Boulez has been released in 2016 and was chosen by Gramophone magazine as Editor’s choice. Ponthus has conducted the LowerEastsideEnsemble, the IFCP Ensemble and the Project Webern Orchestra. He staged and directed contemporary chamber operas. Ponthus has performed extensively in North America and abroad in venues including Wigmore Hall and BBC in London,  Paris Salle Gaveau, the Concertgebow in Amsterdam, the Otto Braun Hall in Berlin, Moscow Conservatory, and the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing. He has been featured in many contemporary music festivals. He is a recipient of the Tanne Foundation’s Award for achievement in the arts. Ponthus has combined video collage in live performances. He has worked in theatre and has directed short films. His recent experimental films were chosen as “the Official selection” at a number of International Film Festivals. Ponthus also composes under the “nom de plume” Oữτις . Ponthus (Director/Founder) created the Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance (at Mannes College the New School for Music, in New York).
